It’s so cold on a night here in Prague now that the river’s are all frozen, the lake’s too. I’ve never ice skated on real ice, I’m not even sure I’d want to because of those scare stories you hear as a kid about the ice breaking and then you fall in and then can’t find the hole you fell through, and then your trapped under the ice while the cold doom takes your life. Maybe it would be a swift end though because you’d be so focused on finding the hole you fell through that before you know it that’s it, it’s all over, certainly a faster fate (and less painful) than overdosing with tablets if you’re suicidal, which I hope you’re not. Sometimes I think how empowering it would be to be suicidal because if you’ve reached a point like that in your life then technically you’ve extinguished fear and could probably do anything, it’s the definition of living each day as if it were your last. It’s a shame that it takes a death wish to actually live out that proverb.
Reigrovy Sady is the closest park to Prague city centre. I’ve spent loads of days there over this last year including this one back in the summer when it wasn’t minus eight degrees outside.
That right there is the best thing about the park. The magnificent view of Prague castle and all those trademark red roof tops. It’s so great because the sun sets just behind the castle so it makes a great viewing spot for lazy summer nights. Or a great sledging spot for fun winter days. You don’t even need a sledge, just turn up with a black bin liner like this guy, and you’re good to go.
I’m obviously slightly obsessed with wanting to go sledging right now, maybe it’s because I haven’t seen snow this heavy since learning to snowboard in Finland. That trip seems a lifetime ago now, I ate reindeer while I was there too, and it was delicious, but I’d maybe feel bad about that now because animals have feeling too, even though I eat chicken sometimes, but chickens don’t seem as self aware as reindeer so maybe it’s not so bad? I wonder if you can be a part time vegetarian? I suppose that would be my label. People say, ‘Oh but you have to eat meat, it’s healthy for you.’ I don’t believe that, maybe some types of people need it, I do fine without it. I think it comes down to your blood type.
The guy with black bin bag has just slid all the way to the bottom of the hill. He didn’t look very comfortable, but he still looked like he enjoyed it. Maybe I could find some empty milk or juice cartons lying around and tie them to my shoes? Slide down the hill like Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards. If you haven’t seen his movie I recommend it.
Walking down through the park I can see about four different dogs. There’s always dogs running around here, so if you visit then I hope you like dogs. Maybe you have a dog of your own you could bring? And then they can make friends with some other dogs and it can be a big dogs day out for them all.
If you’re unsure how to get to Reigrovy Sady just head to Wenceslas Statue and ask somebody around there, it’s really close so you shouldn’t have any problems finding it.
