It was such a relief to finally have the Mike Thurston diet finally over with. As you can imagine I’d more than had enough with eating beef and rice cakes. It was time for something bad. Something unhealthy and greasy and tasty and high calorie and high protein all at once.
It was time, for KFC
As much as I would have liked the idea of having just ‘one’ day eating KFC I figured jumping from a healthy challenge to unhealthy one was the way to go. It was also a matter of convenience. I’d be spending time in four different countries during the two weeks I’d be living on the crispy nuggets so being able to just pop in the closest KFC chain restaurant wouldn’t be a problem. My main concern was whether I’d get all the vitamins and minerals I’d need from eating chicken and chips alone. Fortunately I could drink what I liked so fruit juices and vegetable juices would supplement everything I needed.
It didn’t take long to start feeling sick. I think it was more the amount of oil than anything but at least it was calorie dense. Some days I’d only have nine or ten hot wings but this alone was close to fifteen hundred calories.
By week two I’d made the decision to only have hot wings (and chips) since I thought it wouldn’t make much of a difference and hot wings were my favourite anyway, it just made things a little more interesting.
There were certainly days in the second week especially that I wanted to give up. Surpringly I didn’t throw up, but there were days I felt like I wanted to do that too. So by the time it was finished and over I felt this huge sense of relief. Like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders.
Speaking of shoulders I think all that chicken actually helped mine grow a little. You can see at the end of the video whether all that protein added any muscle or not but as for chicken and meat in general I’ll be giving it a rest for at least a month or two. Its time to go back to tofu and nuts for a while I think.
