I had to leave a couple of friends I’d been to visit in my hometown because I was heading out for a night on the Toon instead. For those who don’t know the Toon is a geordie slang for Newcastle Upon Tyne. Simply because ‘town’ sounds like Toon when they say it.

The friends in Newcastle are a little more sophisticated than the ones we’re I grew up, but not much though. As you can see from the accompanying video they’re also reprobates. Some of them I hadn’t seen in nearly 3 years so it was great to catch up with them. It was just a shame covid was still preventing a lot of people from going out to bars.

Pre-covid the streets and bars of Newcastle would have been packed out. It’s a little sad to see it only half as busy. One thing you might notice if you make it out there is that even in the middle of winter hardly anybody wears a coat. This isn’t because Northern British people don’t feel the cold as much, it’s simply because they ignore it. Whereas I’ve been a little easternised after living in Prague and would rather be warm than sick.

In fact I think the same can be said for each friend in the video too, we’re all well traveled and grown accustomed to other cultures. Except Dan perhaps, no matter what he’ll always be a geordie vagabond.
