Give yourself permission to enjoy life … (4th September 2021)

What is life really about? I’ve asked myself this question many many times and over the years it’s leaned one way and then another but the core essence has always remained the same even from childhood.

I believe life is about having fun.
It’s about undergoing new experiences and experiencing as much as possible in the short time we have. I do not believe it’s about just existing, or making lots of money. After a certain threshold (around a thousand pounds a week income) this won’t make your life any more happy or satisfactory. It’s not about working hard. I mean it can be if you really love your job, but to sacrifice your best healthiest years for a wage seems like insanity to me.

I believe it’s about embracing the small things and cultivating a present positive mindset. A childlike mindset where you’re experiencing life fully through the five senses with wonder and awe. It’s about sharing amazing adventures and special moments with friends and family. It’s about enjoying life’s diversity to the full, appreciating every moment both good and bad. Life is not about doing the same thing every day for 70 years. Those one or two weeks of holiday a year that most people have is what we should be doing all of the time. Enjoying life. Moving around. Meeting new people and making new friends. Revisiting old friends and spending time in all our favourite places all over the planet. Playing and relishing your limited time on this planet before everything is completely gone and forgotten. This is the real point of being alive.
Yes it takes money and financial resources to travel and have wondrous escapades but not as much as you would think. Some countries are so cheap in comparison to the western world that you could spend an entire year there for what you spend in a month living in London. If you really want to grab life by the horns and ride life properly then you’ll find a way.
Next time your out with friends try enjoying every joke, enjoying every movement, even enjoying the sad moments if there are any, try enjoying all of it. Focus on it, and aim to hold that focus. Condition yourself to live your life this way.

I’m a strong believer in people’s ability to adapt and find solutions. Often the first step is the hardest, but taking the plunge and going for it creates the momentum that keeps you going forwards and living the life of your dreams.
